Gabriel serves as senior counsel in the Firm’s Business Group. In his practice, he has represented or closed transactions with companies ranging from large multi-nationals to startups. Gabriel brings a team mentality to all client relationships and strives to deliver extraordinary counsel by combining legal expertise with an understanding of the client’s business model and financial objectives.

Prior to joining Ice Miller, Gabriel was associate general counsel for a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, where he advised on a wide range of transactional matters and led teams on large change initiatives. Earlier in his career, he worked as an associate with a boutique firm in Washington, DC and a full service firm in Chicago. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Rya Zobel of the District of Massachusetts.

Selected Experience
  • Represented a private equity firm in closing a mezzanine debt investment in conformance with SBIC requirements.
  • Represented a manufacturing conglomerate in resolving a derivative valuation disagreement with a bankrupt counterparty
  • As in-house counsel, rebuilt the core contract materials and transaction workflow for client transactions generating billions in annual revenue, reducing days to signature by 25% and negotiated provisions by more than 75%.
  • As in-house counsel, negotiated the transaction with and supported the agile implementation of a technology vendor’s SaaS operational tool, trading annual licensing spend for millions in annual operational savings.
  • As in-house counsel, negotiated dozens of sponsorship agreements with domestic and international music, sports, and celebrity talent, including a multi-year sponsorship agreement with one of the world’s leading automotive brands involving licensing rights, event activations, and vehicle loans.
  • On behalf of a billion-dollar ERISA 401(k) plan, resolved pre-litigation participant disputes about plan structure and fees.
  • Represented multiple states in negotiating environmental expense reimbursements arising out of insurance claims and underground storage tanks.
