Jeff D. Karas is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Business Services Group. As a member of the Finance and Distressed Investments Groups, he represents lenders, borrowers, investors, financial institutions and sponsors in the structuring, negotiating and documenting of complex financing transactions of all types, including revolving and term loans, asset based loans, syndicated loans, real estate loans, debtor-in-possession loans, restructurings, mezzanine and unitranche financings, secured and unsecured notes and letters of credit. His range of clients and experience has provided him with knowledge and understanding in a variety of industries, including sports, maritime, real estate, health care, energy, technology, gaming and hospitality.

Jeff previously worked at two New York law firms before joining Ice Miller. He represented traditional and alternative lenders in middle-market and large-cap leveraged financing transactions. He also assisted private and public companies in general corporate and securities matters. Jeff gained experience facilitating cross-border and domestic financing transactions, drafting and negotiating loan agreements and ancillary documents and executing real estate transactions, such as acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, office and retail leasing and related financing.

Jeff graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from Tulane University Law School with a certificate in sports law. He served as the legal intern for TBT: The Basketball Tournament, where he helped create the tournament’s rules, participation agreements and other legal documents, as well as evaluated user-created content for copyright infringement. Jeff also acted as basketball administration and legal affairs intern for the San Antonio Spurs, assisting with business operations for the development and implementation of team policies and analyzing NBA play contracts and collective bargaining agreements. He also was the managing editor of the Tulane Law Review, senior articles editor for The Sports Lawyer and vice president of the Tulane Sports Law Society.

Jeff is admitted to practice law in the state of New York.
