Joana Ampofo is an associate in Ice Miller’s Labor, Employment and Immigration Practice.

Joana began her career at Ice Miller as a summer associate, drafting memoranda and conducting legal research on labor and employment and securities regulation issues.

She earned her juris doctor from Howard University School of Law, where she was an active member of the Women Law Student Association and the Business Law Society. While in law school, she served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Errol Arthur and the Honorable Rahkel Bouchet. Joana also gained valuable legal experience serving as an honors intern for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In addition, Joana was a research assistant, writing memoranda on Chapter 11 bankruptcy as it pertained to tenure contracts, collective bargaining and pensions. She also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children of DC for three years.

Before law school, Joana was a behavioral support specialist with Youth Consultation Services, counseling clients to help them overcome social and behavioral problems.

Joana graduated from Montclair State University with a bachelor’s degree in justice studies and a paralegal certification. While in undergrad, she was a legal intern for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Outside of the office, Joana enjoys playing volleyball, volunteering and traveling.
