Joseph Guenther is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group. He concentrates his practice on commercial and construction litigation matters.

Joe regularly represents contractors, specialty contractors, subcontractors, owners, developers, design professionals, suppliers, insurers and sureties in a wide variety of commercial, tort and contract matters involving construction. He handles such disputes as breaches of contract, construction defect claims, project delay claims and changed site conditions. In addition, Joe has extensive experience navigating Ohio’s technical mechanics’ lien laws.

Outside of the construction arena, Joe has represented clients on matters involving fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty and other business torts.

Prior to law school, Joe served as an aircraft powertrain repairer with the Ohio Army National Guard. A distinguished honor graduate at the U.S. Army Aviation Logistics School, Joe carried out maintenance on a number of powertrain components for multiple military aircrafts.

He earned his juris doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from The Ohio State University.

  • Aided in the successful defense of a life insurance company against counterclaims brought as a result of an interpleader
  • Assisted in the representation of a tunnel-boring-machine manufacturer and supplier in multi-million dollar payment-and-performance arbitration
  • Contributed to the defense of a general construction contractor against claims in excess of $11 million involving a wastewater treatment plant based on allegations of negligent design and construction
  • Represented a structural steel contractor responsible for roof construction of a multi-million dollar sports venue
