Kaori Watanabe, Ph.D., is a patent agent in Ice Miller’s Intellectual Property Group.
 
Prior to joining Ice Miller, Kaori was a patent agent at an intellectual property law firm in California. There, she prepared patent applications related to immune therapies, stem cells, medical devices, nanotechnologies, as well as other medical apparatus. She also prosecuted patent applications through the United States Patent and Trademark Office and foreign patent offices; and conducted prior art, freedom to operate and due diligence searches.
 
Previously, Kaori worked as a research associate at universities in Southern California, Texas and Japan. She obtained a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Washington State University, where she focused her research on elasticity of the largest protein, called titin, expressed in human muscle at the level of single molecules. She has co-authored several research articles in scientific journals such as PNAS, Cell Reports, and the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
 
She is fluent in both written and spoken Japanese.
 
Kaori is licensed to practice patent law exclusively before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and represents both foreign and domestic clients before the USPTO in the area of patent prosecution. Kaori is not licensed to practice before state and federal court.
