Maria Bazakos is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Real Estate Practice, where she guides clients through all aspects of real estate acquisitions and sales, from due diligence through title clearing and commercial leasing.

Maria regularly assists clients in the preparation and negotiation of various commercial real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, loan agreements, leases and lease amendments. In addition, Maria advises clients regarding the acquisition, financing, leasing, management and disposition of retail, industrial, office and other commercial properties.

Prior to joining Ice Miller, Maria also assisted clients with business and commercial transactions. She represented clients in a range of corporate matters, such as commercial lending, financing and sales and acquisitions of stock and other equity interests. Maria has experience negotiating primary and ancillary transaction documents like stock and asset purchase agreements, operating agreements and security agreements. Additionally, Maria advised commercial landlords and tenants in lease disputes and defaults, including litigation when necessary.

While in law school, Maria worked as a legal intern for the Office of General Counsel at UnitedHealth Group and the Office of Ethics and Compliance at Medtronic in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Maria was a senior editor for the University of St. Thomas Law Journal and a member of the American Association for the Justice Trial Advocacy Team. Maria was also permitted by the Minnesota Supreme Court to represent clients in filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy proceedings in Federal Bankruptcy Court.

Maria is licensed to practice in federal and state court in Illinois. Outside of practicing law, Maria enjoys training for triathlons, skiing, playing soccer and scoping out new Chicago restaurants.
