Matt Roush is an associate in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group, where he concentrates on complex commercial litigation, white collar defense and environmental litigation in state and federal courts. 

Prior to joining the Firm, Matt served for eight years as an officer in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Matt gained significant jury and bench trial experience during his service as a judge advocate. As a criminal defense attorney, he represented individual clients in dozens of courts-martial, primarily as lead counsel, including felony-level accusations of theft, assault consummated by a battery, sexual assault and assault with intent to commit murder. 

Matt also spent a tour in Washington, D.C. working alongside Department of Justice attorneys as agency counsel to defend the Department of the Navy from federal civil suits brought by current and former Navy service members. 

Additionally, Matt brings a unique perspective and creative thinking to problem solving on behalf of the Firm’s clients from his time as the legal advisor for international forces combating piracy off the Horn of Africa and a deployment to Afghanistan advising Afghan judicial staff on rule of law development.

Originally from Kendallville, Ind., Matt graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing. Matt received his juris doctorate in 2008 from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where he participated in the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition and served as an administrative law judge for the Indiana Dept. of Workforce Development.
