Matthew G. Kriege is an associate in the Chicago office and a member of the Business Group at Ice Miller, where he helps clients navigate the complex world of private capital.

Matt focuses his practice on private fund formation (including structuring of legal entities, drafting governing documents, negotiating side letters, and advising fund managers in all aspects of fund formation and administration), M&A, private equity transactions, and general corporate matters. His experience includes counseling fund managers on the creation, administration, and regulatory compliance of Small Business Investment Companies (SBIC Funds), Rural Business Investment Companies (RBIC Funds), and other private investment funds.

Before joining Ice Miller, Matt served as in-house counsel for one of the nation’s largest owners and operators of grocery-anchored shopping centers. In this role, he assisted on all legal matters related to M&A, capital markets, and other strategic transactions (including the company’s IPO on Nasdaq, institutional joint ventures, the company’s first venture capital investment, and material individual and portfolio real estate transactions), as well as day-to-day general corporate matters. Matthew's prior in-house experience offers him an understanding of the issues and challenges that clients face, especially those working as in-house counsel.

Matt graduated magna cum laude from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northern Kentucky University. He holds a license to practice law in both Illinois and Ohio.
