Sarah Funke is a Partner in Ice Miller's Employee Benefits Group.  Her practice focuses primarily on health and welfare employee benefit plans and related fringe benefits, such as health plans for active employees and retirees, short-term and long-term disability benefits, wellness programs, on-site medical clinics, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement policies, cafeteria plans, flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement arrangements, and health savings accounts.  She works with clients to design, implement, and maintain their plans in compliance with the many laws that affect them, including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the FMLA, USERRA, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), and the Internal Revenue Code. 

As part of Sarah's practice, she works with clients on a variety of issues that are integral to implementing and maintaining a legally-compliant benefit plan.  These issues include, for example: plan design considerations; drafting of plan documents, summary plan descriptions, benefits summaries, enrollment guides, and other communication materials; coordination of benefits; review of insurance policies and certificates; review and negotiation of vendor contracts; resolution of issues with third party providers who assist with plan administration; audit considerations; compliance with reporting and disclosure obligations to government agencies and plan participants, including Form 5500 reporting, PPACA reporting and disclosure obligations, and COBRA notice and election requirements; and general operational compliance considerations.

Prior to joining Ice Miller's Employee Benefits Group, Sarah worked for more than 15 years in the area of commercial real estate transactions as part of Ice Miller's Real Estate Group.  Her transactional experience includes extensive experience in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts.

Sarah attended Indiana University, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated, with highest honors, in 1991, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English. She holds a juris doctor from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where she served on the Indiana Law Journal and graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, in 1994. She is a member of the American Bar Association.

Sarah joined Ice Miller in 1994 and is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana.
