Employment Policies & Training

Although employment claims and litigation seem to be an ever-increasing part of doing business, our Firm believes that one of the most valuable services we provide is assisting our clients in minimizing employment problems and the risk of lawsuits before they arise, through sound planning, counseling, and training.

We advise employers with respect to the handling of employment matters, such as terminations, to help ensure that the ultimate decision will be defensible if a legal claim is filed. We also help employers create effective and defensible policies, such as those concerning drug testing, family and medical leave, and Internet usage. In addition, we prepare employment contracts that provide protection to employers in areas relating to trade secrets and confidentiality, and that prohibit employees from competing with our clients after leaving their employment.

We also understand that the surest way to prevent employment disputes is to make sure that those employer representatives with day-to-day contact with employees receive appropriate training in lawful and effective employment practices. Our labor and employment professionals will provide interactive and cost-effective training to your supervisors and human resource professionals on key employment issues, such as:

  • Sexual and other harassment prevention and investigation
  • Union-free maintenance
  • Effective communications
  • Interviewing skills
  • Discipline, discharge, performance and documentation

We also offer a variety of other preventive legal services for our clients, including: (1) union vulnerability audits, (2) wage and hour compliance audits, (3) safety and health audits; and (4) preparation of essential employment documents (such as applications, handbooks and personnel policies).
