Public Power

Ice Miller has served as bond counsel to the Indiana Municipal Power Agency since its creation in 1983 and helped organize that entity and drafted its enabling legislation prior to that time. 

As bond counsel, the Firm has helped structure tenancy in common and other complex legal structures for projects in various locations throughout the Midwest while complying with the specific federal tax rules that relate to public power.  The Firm also serves as bond counsel to the Northern Illinois Municipal Power Agency and has participated in a number of projects for that agency. In conjunction with working with these public power agencies, Ice Miller also works with municipal electric utilities in the Midwest as to their projects and assists both the agencies and those individual municipal electric utilities with regard to their power sales contracts, various other matters relating to capacity and transmission issues and implementation of rates and charges.
