John Murphy's primary practice concentrations are in insurance regulatory law, insurance market conduct and examinations, insurance company mergers and acquisitions, insurance insolvency law and insurance litigation.
John acts as lead counsel to the Indiana Department of Insurance Commissioner on major insolvency, market conduct, Form A acquisitions and regulatory matters, including the liquidation of Standard Life Insurance Company and the liquidation of Mutual Security Life Insurance Company. He acts as appointed examiner-in-chief for the Indiana Department of Insurance on Indiana and multi-state market conduct examinations. He also represents clients in connection with regulatory, market conduct, mergers and acquisitions and licensing issues pending before the Indiana Department of Insurance. John has also represented other state departments of insurance on insolvency related matters.
Murphy joined Ice Miller in 1982. He is admitted to practice law in the state of Indiana.

- John became a Qualified Independent Assessor of the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association. He is often appointed as a special representative of the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) for purposes of national meetings of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), in order to represent or assist the IDOI at regulator-only executive sessions.
