Ice Miller senior cybersecurity advisor Chetrice Romero was featured in the South Bend Tribune article, “St. Joseph County event aims to prepare for possible election attacks.”

The article included:

The November midterm elections are rapidly approaching. To prepare for possible election related incidents, St. Joseph County Clerk of the Circuit Court Amy Rolfes, in coordination with the Office of Indiana Secretary of State hosted Election Security Tabletop Exercises to strengthen preparedness, communication and incident response.

The event, led by Senior Cyber Security Advisor with Ice Miller, Chetrice Romero, who has extensive experience in
cybersecurity with both the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, brought 30 to 40 emergency management officials, clerks, deputy clerks and elections departments from a few different Northern Indiana counties Oct. 1. It was not open to the public or media due to the sensitive nature of the scenarios and strategy.

“They have so many hats that they’re wearing that they don’t sometimes realize like, ‘I haven’t really talked to my emergency manager or my cybersecurity person or my IT person or my commissioner or my local law enforcement, my sheriff about what do we do if bad things happen on election day or even weeks or days ahead of election day,’” Romero said. “And those aren’t the days you want to figure that out.

“You want to prepare; you want to get ahead of that so that things run smoothly. … Like how are you most efficiently and effectively using all those resources, not just at a local level but at a state level, federal level to get the most accurate information as quickly as possible to the voter so that they feel confident in their elections and they feel confident that their vote counted and mattered.”
