Proffitt, who is partner in charge of client relations at Ice Miller LLP, has developed a reputation throughout Indianapolis for being an influential connector and mentor, thanks to her extracurricular involvement with multiple nonprofits and boards.

She recently recalled an interaction with the former executive director of a nonprofit whose board she’d previously chaired. While working together at the nonprofit, Proffitt advocated for a significant pay raise for the leader, which opened the door to broader conversations about how she valued her work.

Later, when that executive director started her own business and was figuring out how to price a big opportunity, she told Proffitt, “I heard your voices from our earlier conversations, loud and clear,” Proffitt recalled.

The woman held firm on what she felt was the value of her work. And got it.
