Ice Miller partner Melissa Proffitt has been selected as the 31st recipient of the Michael A. Carroll Award by the Indianapolis Business Journal. The annual award is bestowed to a man or woman who has demonstrated the former deputy mayor’s qualities of determination, humility and devotion to the central Indiana community.

Proffitt is partner-in-charge of client relations where she is responsible for business development initiatives for the firm. Her practice focuses on employee benefits with a concentration on welfare benefit plans and qualified plans.

A Hoosier to her core, Proffitt has dedicated her life to her family, law practice and service with the overarching objective to better the community in which she lives and thrives. She volunteers her time to more than a dozen community boards and has been a part of trade missions that have traveled internationally on behalf of the state of Indiana and the city of Indianapolis.

Since 1993, the prize has been awarded to an exemplary community leader and is named in memory of former deputy mayor and Lilly Endowment executive Michael A. Carroll, who passed away in a 1992 plane crash.

Proffitt will be honored during the Engage Indiana Series – Central Indiana luncheon on December 12 at the Westin Indianapolis.
