Ice Miller LLP announced Tuesday that a longtime attorney who also served as the first woman and Black justice on the Indiana Supreme Court was named the firm's first chief equity and inclusion officer.

Myra Selby, an Indianapolis-based senior counsel who has been with Ice Miller since 1999, was named the firm's chief equity and inclusion officer, a new role that will involve leading Ice Miller's diversity, equity, inclusion and access strategy, according to a statement.

The firm also noted that Selby's new position will also involve working with firm leadership on client-facing diversity initiatives and with law schools to help encourage recruitment and retention of diverse talent.

"I am honored to be appointed Ice Miller's first chief equity and inclusion officer and excited to continue this work that has been my passion for decades," Selby said in the statement. "In this time of change, defending and expanding DEIA efforts are proving more important than ever, and I am proud to have the opportunity to employ my experience and unique skillset to help further this work."
