Joshua Schlake is an associate in Ice Miller’s Tax Group where he focuses his practice on corporate and partnership tax matters. He advises clients on a variety of state and local income tax issues, including sales and use tax and real and personal property tax.
Prior to joining Ice Miller, Joshua was the assistant director of policy for EmployIndy, a nonprofit and quasi-governmental agency that serves as the workforce development board for Indianapolis.
Joshua has significant experience working for Indiana State government in a variety of positions. He worked for the Office of Governor Mike Pence as an assistant legislative director and law clerk. As a law clerk, Joshua reviewed and made recommendations on proposed settlement agreements for litigation pursued by and against the state of Indiana for final determination by the Governor’s General Counsel and analyzed the Governor’s board appointments for constitutional and statutory compliance.
Before working for the Office of Gov. Pence, Joshua was the deputy director of policy and legislative affairs for the Center for Education and Career Innovation and a senior legislative assistant for the Indiana House of Representatives. He also completed a legislative internship at a law firm in Indianapolis and was a congressional intern in the Office of Congressman Steve Buyer.
Joshua was a summer associate at Ice Miller LLP during summer 2017.
Joshua received his Bachelor of Arts,
cum laude, in economics and political science from DePauw University in 2011. While at DePauw University, Joshua participated in the Management Fellow Honor’s Program and was a member of the men’s soccer team. In 2018, Joshua earned his juris doctor,
summa cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
