Maureen Maffei is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Workplace Solutions Group, where she routinely counsels employers regarding employee handbooks, employee contracts, separation agreements, FLMA, FLSA, and general personnel issues, including employee investigations and best practices audits.

Maureen has represented private employers in matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, and the Illinois Department of Employment Security. She has experience in federal and state court, as well as various federal and state administrative agencies.

Maureen also assists clients with the administration of personal trusts and decedent and guardianship estates, including: the preparation and presentation of all necessary court documents; preparation of inventories and accountings; and the marshalling and distribution of assets, including communications with holders of such assets and beneficiaries. Although Maureen works hard to resolve such situations without the need to utilize formal proceedings, if necessary, Maureen is an aggressive advocate when litigating matters related to the administration of trusts and estates.

Additionally, Maureen handles breach of contract matters, landlord tenant disputes, and collection proceedings, representing clients dealing with these sorts of claims in court, mediation, and arbitration proceedings.

Maureen received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from the University of Houston. After graduation she worked in management for eight years in the hospitality industry before attending law school. She received her Juris Doctor in 2001 from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago (now known as the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law).

Maureen is a member of the Illinois State Bar, as well as a member of the following Federal Bars: Northern District of Illinois, Northern District of Indiana, Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the District of Colorado.
