A Look at Adaptive Reuse Projects

January 18, 2022

The Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP) posted an interesting summary of some adaptive re-use projects across the country. Locally, there have long been efforts to achieve an effective re-use of the GM Stamping Plant and LaFayette Square Mall in Indianapolis. There have been some notable successes, too. For example, the development of the old Central State Hospital campus and the opening of 16 Tech.

Adaptive reuse projects can often be a high-risk, high-reward proposition, as aging or obsolete assets bring their own set of unique challenges for developers hoping to revitalize or reposition a property for new uses.
