Program Description:

For years, the only tools available to the Justice Department to prosecute bribe-taking foreign officials were money laundering charges. The DOJ now has a new tool—the Foreign Extortion Prevention Act. Enacted in December 2023, FEPA makes it a crime for foreign officials to solicit or receive a bribe from a person or entity in the U.S. This panel will examine how the demand-side limitations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act led to the enactment of FEPA, explain the scope of the new statute, and explore its consequences for U.S. companies and their employees.
