Albertsons VP of Benefits & Executive Compensation Law Joins Firm’s D.C. Office

Ice Miller is pleased to announce the addition of veteran employee benefits and executive compensation legal leader Vanessa Scott to its nationally recognized Workplace Solutions Group. Highly respected in the industry and with a pedigree that crosses both the public and private spheres, Scott touts extensive experience from multiple perspectives and different sides of the table as both in-house and outside counsel, including policy development and proficiency navigating legal issues on behalf of her clients.

Immediately prior to joining Ice Miller, Scott served as benefits and executive compensation counsel to Albertsons Companies, Inc., a Fortune 100 company and one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States. At Albertsons, Scott designed and oversaw the structure, implementation, and administration of tax-qualified and non-qualified retirement, health, and fringe benefits for the company’s domestic and international employees. She also advised the general counsel, corporate officers, and board of directors on executive compensation trends and compliance issues. Before Albertsons, Scott served for several years as a tax partner at Eversheds Sutherland (U.S.) LLP, where she held several firm-wide leadership roles.

Scott counsels employers and domestic and international companies on a wide array of federal tax and ERISA matters. With more than 20 years of experience in the employee benefits space, she provides comprehensive legal guidance to a diverse range of clients across various industries.

Scott’s practice merges her proficiency with the technical rules that govern benefit programs and her prior policy experience as a Congressional aide and a Washington representative for Fortune 500 companies. She frequently represents her clients’ interests before federal agencies, including the Departments of Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services, and she has testified before members of Congress on employee benefits matters relating to the Affordable Care Act.
