Ransomware is a form of malware designed to encrypt files on a device, rendering them and generally the entire system unusable. Until that is, the ransom is paid to the cybercriminal – if you opt to go that route (more on that later).

“My general impression is that the number of ransomware incidents is going up, and if not, has stayed consistent. I don’t anticipate it going down,” observes Siddharth “Sid” Bose, a partner in Ice Miller’s data security and privacy practice in Indianapolis.
