Eric Dawes is an actuary working alongside the employee benefits lawyers of Ice Miller’s Workplace Solutions Group. He joined Ice Miller in 2005 and has over 30 years of experience in retirement and retiree health care actuarial consulting services.

Eric is qualified to provide basic actuarial services to pension and retiree health care plans. As an enrolled actuary, he is eligible to perform actuarial funding valuations under ERISA. He is also skilled in providing pension and retiree health care accounting information under both FASB and GASB. Additionally, he is qualified to provide the following services to both private sector and governmental plans:
  • Section 415 and Section 401(a) (17) compliance testing and calculators
  • Nondiscrimination testing for defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans (for instance 401(k) and 403(b)) and health care plans
  • Cost/benefit analysis of retirement plan design options
  • Actuarial audits
Many employers face challenges with the retirement and retiree health care plans that they offer to their employees. As employers attempt to find the right mix between Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans, and as they attempt to manage their ever increasing retiree health care costs, Eric has the specific competencies necessary to help clients develop a strategic plan and program design that best fits the various needs of company stakeholders.

Eric is able to explain complex actuarial and financial consulting issues in an easily understood and interesting manner. By enabling his clients to understand difficult issues, he gives his clients greater opportunity to more efficiently manage their own business issues and improve their own profitability.
