The Worker’s Compensation Board of Indiana (the Board) has implemented a new module as part of the Board’s Electronic Data (EDI) system. The new process will replace mailing paper copies of signed impairment agreements and supporting documents to the Board. The Board confirmed that the PPI (permanent partial impairment) Submission Portal is secure and does not save any personal data on the site. The Board plans to make use of the new portal to submit mandatory PPI agreements on October 1, 2023.

On August 14, 2023, the Board began testing the PPI Submission Portal. Effective September 1, 2023, the Board asked adjusters to electronically upload the signed impairment agreements (State Form 1043), Employee Waivers and the medical reports using the Gateway PPI portal, rather than submitting these documents via the mail. The Board advised that adjusters will be able to monitor the status of each submission through review and approval. If there is a rejection notice, the adjuster only needs to resubmit the Board form, not the supporting documents.

Additional reminders:

  • The Board continues to focus on First Report of Injury compliance. Check the data initially input into EDI to ensure the date of injury and the date of employer notice are accurate. These dates can be the cause of compliance notices and penalty assessment.
  • The statutory compensation rates and impairment calculations increased for claims with dates of injury after July 1, 2023.
