Colleges and universities are grappling with a growing array of safety threats that directly impact their educational mission, campus community, and legal obligations. This program provides legal counsel, administrators, and safety professionals with a comprehensive overview of the most urgent risks facing higher education today—including bomb threats, active shooter incidents, cyberattacks, unauthorized trespassing, disruptive protests, and other significant interruptions to campus operations and learning environments.

Participants will gain insight into how institutions can legally and effectively prepare for and respond to these threats. Topics will include emergency response protocols, behavioral threat assessment teams, protest management policies, cybersecurity planning, and law enforcement coordination. The session will include best practices for training faculty, staff, and students in threat awareness and crisis response.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to align safety planning with institutional values and legal compliance, reduce liability, and create a safer, more resilient campus environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and assess major safety threats impacting higher education institutions.
  • Understand legal responsibilities related to campus safety and emergency response.
  • Explore policy, training, and procedural strategies to mitigate and manage risk.
  • Analyze real-world examples and case studies of campus incident responses.
