Program Description:

Over the last few years, AI tools for patent prosecution have been a focus of development and a frequent topic of conversation in the IP community.  Numerous AI-based tools for patent prosecution are offered by a variety of vendors.  AI-based tools offer the prospect of gains in both quality and efficiency in patent drafting and prosecution.  This presentation will discuss the capabilities and limitations of AI tools for patent drafting, patent prosecution, and searching and analyzing prior art.

In addition, the Copyright Office continues to grapple with copyright issues raised by AI, including the copyrightability of works using generative AI. This presentation will discuss the Copyright Office’s current position on registration of works incorporating AI.

Finally, AI is a valuable tool for trademark prosecution and clearance searches, as there are now multiple vendors providing sophisticated search tools at competitive rates by leveraging AI capabilities. The presentation will briefly touch on these services, and the pros and cons of using them.
