James (Jim) Smolik is an associate in Ice Miller’s Business Group where his practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, corporate finance and general corporate matters.
 
Jim received his juris doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of Dayton. Jim is a recipient of the Arthur James Seelye Award, which is presented to one student each year who exhibits an entrepreneurial enthusiasm and bent while in law school. During law school, Jim was a staff editor for The Ohio State Business Law Journal and served as a Moritz Board Fellow, where he served on the board of directors for a local nonprofit. Additionally, Jim clerked for the Ohio Attorney General and at a large Midwest law firm.
 
Prior to law school, Jim worked in public affairs, and he is a veteran of numerous state and federal political campaigns. Most recently, Jim served as the grassroots coordinator for Congressman Pat Tiberi.
 
Jim lives in Columbus with his wife Alexandra who is a dentist and a Captain in the United States Air Force. Jim is an avid boater and active in his community where he serves on the finance committee of his church.
