Chris Samis, most recently a partner at Potter Anderson & Corroon, is joining Ice Miller after growing his bankruptcy and restructuring practice at the Delaware firm. Ice Miller noted Samis’ reputation as “the ultimate dealmaker” with his 20 years of experience in handling debtors, creditors’ committees and other stakeholders in complex Chapter 11 cases.

Samis said he found the work stimulating through his seven years at Potter Anderson but it grew so involved he had to leave some matters on the table. He said he was recruited by a former colleague to join Ice Miller. Samis also worked at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP, and he said many respected colleagues already made the transition to Ice Miller.

“The matters just increased in complexity, so they had roots that go into different directions like regulatory and public securities. Since we didn’t have practice areas in that, we’d have to hire outside counsel. I felt like Ice Miller gave me the opportunity to bring it all together and maximize the leverage we have,” Samis told the Delaware Business Times.
