Jessa DeGroote is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group. She has extensive experience managing pretrial discovery, trial preparation, discovery motions and drafting essential documents, including merits briefs at all stages of litigation in all levels of court.

Before joining Ice Miller, Jessa was a litigation associate with a New York-based law firm, where she represented a global financial institution in defense against multi-billion-dollar actions related to the Madoff fraud and the bankruptcy of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. She also represented an insurance company in connection with the termination of credit default swaps in an action involving claims in excess of one billion dollars. In addition, Jessa represented a fresh fruit producer in product liability actions brought in multiple courts in the United States and around the world.

Jessa is heavily involved in pro bono work, having successfully settled a civil section 1983 action for an inmate. She has also filed amicus curiae briefs on behalf of multiple legal services organizations in support of challenges to the rescission of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals at all levels of federal court, including in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Previously, Jessa served as a law clerk for the Honorable Kent A. Jordan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and for the Honorable C. Darnell Jones, II of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Jessa earned her juris doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from The University of Texas with a certificate in business.
