Jessa DeGroote is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group. She has extensive experience managing discovery as well as drafting and arguing briefs at all stages of litigation and in all levels of court, including the U.S. Supreme Court.  Jessa enjoys working on a broad range of cases for her varied clients, ranging from business disputes to personal injury cases.

Jessa also has extensive experience in bankruptcy-related litigation and works closely with the Firm’s Bankruptcy group. Before joining Ice Miller, she was a litigation associate with a New York-based law firm, where she represented a global financial institution in defense against multi-billion-dollar actions related to the Madoff fraud and the bankruptcy of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. Since joining Ice Miller, Jessa has worked with the Firm’s preeminent Bankruptcy group in representing the rights of creditors in fraud-related bankruptcy cases.

Jessa often works with her colleagues in the White Collar Defense and Investigations group to represent clients in negotiating criminal subpoena responses, conducting internal investigations, and managing government investigations.  She also works with the White Collar group in representing both individual and corporate clients at all stages of investigation, indictment, trial, and appeal.

Pro bono work has always been an important part of Jessa’s practice.  Since joining Ice Miller, Jessa has helped lead the Firm’s initiative to assist the Marion County Prosecutor’s Conviction Integrity Unit in its mission to identify and reduce sentences for certain eligible individuals who received lengthy sentences for drug crimes before a revision to the applicable laws substantially reduced the length of those sentences for future convictions.

Previously, Jessa served as a law clerk for the Honorable Kent A. Jordan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and for the Honorable C. Darnell Jones, II of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
