Beyond the Delegation: Bringing Israel’s Leadership Lessons in Cyber Resilience and Innovation Home
Why a Delegation to Israel’s Innovation Ecosystem? Ice Miller Senior Cybersecurity Advisor Chetrice Romero recently joined technology delegation to Israel, sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest and coordinated by TechIndiana and Heartland to Holyland, to explore emerging technologies, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare innovation, venture capital, and international economic partnerships. The delegation brought together leaders from government, higher education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, economic development, technology, and cybersecurity to engage with some of Israel's most influential organizations, including the Israel Innovation Authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Startup Nation Central, ARC at Sheba Medical Center, the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, SIBAT, the Israel Export Institute, Iron Nation, and several leading venture capital firms and innovation accelerators. Inside One of the World’s Leading Innovation Ecosystems Throughout a week in July, delegates explored how Israel has developed one of the world's most recognized innovation ecosystems by fostering collaboration among government, academia, industry, healthcare, investors, and entrepreneurs. Discussions focused on practical applications of: Artificial intelligence and AI governance Cyber resilience and critical infrastructure protection Healthcare and agricultural technology innovation Startup commercialization andworkforce development Public-private partnerships A Cybersecurity Advisor's Perspective on Resilience As Ice Miller's cybersecurity advisor, Romero participated in discussions centered on cyber resilience, AI governance, critical infrastructure, workforce readiness, and opportunities to strengthen partnerships between Israel and organizations across the Midwest. The experience provided valuable insights into how leaders can better prepare for emerging risks while responsibly embracing innovation. "Cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and innovation may have been the focus of our meetings, but leadership was the lesson that connected them all," Romero said. "The organizations we visited consistently showed that resilient organizations are built by investing in relationships, encouraging collaboration, and never losing sight of the people behind the technology. Those are principles I look forward to bringing back to our clients." Strengthening the Indiana ⇄ Israel Corridor The delegation also explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration between Israel and Indiana in sectors including healthcare, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, agriculture, critical infrastructure, higher education, and economic development, reinforcing Ice Miller’s role in the growing initiative. Bringing Lessons Home to Clients Ice Miller will incorporate insights from the delegation into the team’s work advising clients on cyber resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, AI governance, tabletop exercises, and executive preparedness. "One of the most important reminders from this experience is that the world's biggest challenges cannot be solved by one organization or one nation alone," Romero said. "The strongest solutions are built when leaders are willing to share ideas, challenge one another's thinking, and work together toward a common purpose."
